The lily-pad lay on top of the water,
She bobbed up and down with each wave in order
To show off her skills and beauty to others,
But they didn’t care and just downright ignored her.
“What was it,” she asked one day to herself,
“That makes all the birds and the frogs go around
My beautiful skin and head off to seek more?
Am I not enough?” Though at times she was sure…
That she’d tried very hard and done all that she could,
To be better than just a floating piece of wood.
She realised she might need to do something more,
To be the one lily-pad they all adored.
It wasn’t until one day when she asked
The animals why they all have to walk past
Her lily-pad skin when the frog finally speaks
And says, “You’re not a pad, you’re a regular leaf!”
